Strata was founded with a clear purpose: to give elected and appointed local government officials better access to the information they need to serve their communities.
Why Strata exists
Local leaders were making major decisions without tools built for them.
City council members, mayors, and appointed officials make decisions that shape their communities for years to come. Yet many serve part-time, receive limited compensation, and enter office without formal training for the wide range of issues they must evaluate.
They are expected to understand budgets, contracts, development agreements, infrastructure projects, ordinances, and years of previous decisions — often while balancing careers, families, and other responsibilities.
We saw software being built for nearly every function of city government, but very little designed specifically for the officials responsible for governing it. That was the need Strata was created to fill.
Our founding purpose
The information already existed. Using it was the problem.
Cities generate an enormous amount of valuable information. But that information is often scattered across agenda packets, meeting minutes, budget books, ordinances, contracts, staff reports, and years of PDFs.
For an elected or appointed official, finding one answer can require searching multiple websites, opening dozens of files, and piecing together decisions made long before they began serving.
Public officials should not have to become expert researchers just to understand the history behind a city decision.

Strata is not a general-purpose software company that later adapted its product for government. We began with the needs of elected and appointed officials and built the company around them. Strata is purpose-built for an audience historically overlooked by government technology.
